The customer’s situation: I live on the first floor and the waterproofing was not good at that time. When I returned to Nantian, my home was very damp. The climbing frame I bought when I was collecting wool the year before was moldy.
I bought a new cat climbing frame. I want to use it for a longer time.
In the comment section, I saw two options: paint and wood wax oil. I did some research. Considering that the kittens at home like to chew wood, varnish is not as natural as wood wax oil. I was worried that there might be formaldehyde in the paint, and varnish is not easy to use. It requires a bit of skill and is not very hand-friendly, so I chose wood wax oil.
[Wood wax oil needs to be reapplied regularly. If the cats at home do not chew the wood and have technical support, you can choose varnish! ! ! 】
My friend bought solid wood wax oil, which is easier to use and not afraid of dripping and staining clothes. Just search it on the shopping website and buy it casually. When buying, be sure to check whether the detailed ingredients are natural and whether there is a test report. If the sister needs to adjust the color and has good painting skills, she can also buy colored liquid wood wax oil.
If the wood wax oil you bought has a pungent smell, it is best to buy a new one. The normal natural wood wax oil smells very fresh.
My friend’s climbing frame is a 1.8-meter medium-sized climbing frame from Shimao Wuxie. I asked the customer service before buying the wood wax oil. She said that if I buy 100ml, it will be enough for brushing. So I bought 100ml and used it after actually brushing it. I bought 1/4 of this box. Even if the sisters in the group buy large climbing frames, this box is enough. Be careful not to buy too much.
The merchant who bought the wood wax oil will give you a polishing cloth, sponge and sandpaper. If the wood wax oil you bought does not come with these things, a dishwashing sponge at home can also be used. The polishing cloth can be replaced by old clothes, and the sandpaper can be 280 grit. If you don’t have high requirements for smoothness, just use 240-grit sandpaper. I used 280-grit sandpaper.
The next step is the operation steps. When operating, you can first spread paper on the ground. Of course, it doesn’t matter if the paper is not that big. The wood wax oil is easy to mop off. Just mop it off when it gets on the floor.
Dismantle all the climbing frames and polish them thoroughly until they are smooth. If you have high requirements for smoothness, you can polish them repeatedly.
I just polished it once because I’m lazy, so that’s pretty much it.
Use a sponge or cotton cloth to apply the wood wax oil on the board in a thin layer. First apply it wide open and close, so that the surface of the board is soaked with the wood wax oil first, and then apply it along the wood grain. Be sure to apply it thinly and don’t apply too much, otherwise Dries slowly and unevenly
After applying, you need to dry it for the first time. It usually takes 1-3 days to dry. Do not put it in the sun, just put it in a ventilated place and blow it. Wood wax oil merchants generally promote quick drying in 4 hours. It takes a process for the oil to penetrate into the wood. After 4 hours, it will only dry on the surface, but it has not yet penetrated into the wood, so the effect will be compromised.
After the wood is dry, rub it hard with a polishing cloth to polish it. After polishing, follow the method of the first pass and apply a thin layer of wood wax oil. The second time will be slightly slower than the first time.
After brushing wood wax oil twice, the surface of the climbing frame will look very good. After the second coat is dry, you can use a relatively rough cloth to wipe it hard along the wood grain and polish it, just like picking up leather shoes. After this polishing, everything will be completed. If time If more, you can try applying wood wax oil three to four times, the effect will definitely be better than two times. Below is what it looks like after two polishes, I think it’s pretty good.
Summary of the process: Brush with wood wax oil – dry for 1-3 days – polish – brush with wood wax oil again – dry for 1-3 days – polish – complete
Follow-up maintenance: Wood wax oil needs to be reapplied regularly, otherwise the effect will be weakened. Usually once a year is enough. If the cat climbing frame is used frequently at home, the time can be shortened appropriately, once every three months or half a year. After maintenance, it will look brand new. Feel.
